OUR STORY

South Seas Ice Cream Company set out to capture a little bit of the magic that is the taste of Aotearoa.

Established in the autumn of 2018, in a 1930s building constructed over the swift flowing waters of the Huatoki Stream, and now settled in with the Escape Coffee Roasters in the New Plymouth CBD, South Sea Ice Cream Company has created a range of flavours representing a tramp from coast to mountain - from the beach, through the bush and lush rain forest, to the magnificent snow-capped Mount Taranaki, to your tongue.
  • Water from the Katao spring peculates through the two-million-year-old Maitahi volcanic sub strata formations beneath the Kaitake Range for 45 years before reaching the extraction well at the coast.
Some of Sean's fondest and earliest memories are of childhood visits to the south coast of England, often indulging in ice cream sundaes, Knickerbocker Glorias or Cornish Clotted Cream ice cream.

Later, those memories would include several years living, working and eating gelato under the Italian sun, where he would meet his wife, Paola.

Shortly after moving his family to New Zealand, Sean found a vintage Italian gelato machine down in Invercargill. Deciding to swap his construction engineer life for a role recreating those beautiful memories and experiences in the form of gelati, ice creams and sorbetti made from New Zealand fruit, berries, chocolate, nuts, spring water, milk & cream.
